Surgical Techniques and Innovations

Internationally Distinctive Endoscopic Techniques and Digital Innovations

The surgical methods taught at the Centre are built on a series of innovations that have advanced global temporomandibular joint surgical practice. These techniques are standardised, reproducible, and supported by extensive clinical data, forming the technical foundation of the training curriculum.

1. Endoscopic Disc Reduction System (Yang Method)

A fully standardised surgical system featuring:

  • Custom-designed surgical instrument sets
  • Standardised, reproducible procedural pathways
  • The distinct surgical concept of the Yang method
  • Outcomes supported by an extensive clinical evidence base

2. Digital TMJ Surgery Platform

  • VSP-based disc repositioning and TJR planning
  • 3D splint generation and occlusal simulation
  • Integration with orthognathic surgical pathways

3. Advanced Surgical Applications

  • Arthroscopy (basic to advanced)
  • Complex TMJ reconstruction
  • Customised total joint replacement (TJR)
  • Multidisciplinary TMJ-orthognathic surgery workflow

These techniques apply purpose-built anatomical endoscopic suturing methods that enable precise disc repositioning and stable joint reconstruction. They rely on a dedicated endoscopic equipment system and patented surgical instruments, specifically engineered for the complex anatomy of the temporomandibular joint and capable of outcomes that are difficult to achieve with conventional tools. Joint reconstruction is further supported by custom-designed TMJ prostheses that optimise joint mechanics, enhance occlusal stability, and improve long-term functional recovery. Together, the patented instruments, suturing techniques, and customised joint-replacement systems form an integrated surgical platform that improves the predictability, safety, and efficacy of TMJ treatment and helps establish new international standards for minimally invasive and reconstructive temporomandibular joint surgery.
