Vision and Mission

Advancing TMJ Care through Innovation, Evidence, and Education

The TMJ Competence Centre is an international platform dedicated to advancing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) care. Rather than resting on the reputation of any single individual, the Centre's purpose is to translate the best available clinical evidence into reproducible standards, and to make those standards teachable to surgeons across the world. It integrates clinical practice, scientific discovery, and systematic surgeon training within one unified academic platform.

The cornerstone of the initiative is a strategic partnership with the German Surgical Foundation. Through this collaboration, the programme incorporates European educational standards, curriculum quality assurance, and faculty-development frameworks within an internationally unified training model. The Foundation leads the establishment of the certification and review system, ensuring that surgeons trained across continents meet competency benchmarks aligned with recognised global surgical fellowship standards.

Building on patented surgical systems, a substantial body of clinical evidence, and more than a decade of translational research, the Centre delivers:

  • Evidence-based, minimally invasive temporomandibular joint surgical techniques, including endoscopic disc repositioning
  • A competency-based, tiered education programme training TMJ specialists and surgeons in alignment with international fellowship standards (ASTMJS, ESTMJS, AO CMF, SORG)
  • State-of-the-art simulation and cadaveric training centres across China, Europe, and Asia
  • A robust international network for multicentre research, guideline development, digital innovation, and educational exchange
  • Standardised certification and credentialing administered with the German Surgical Foundation, ensuring high-quality, globally recognised training

Through a scalable educational architecture, European-aligned governance, and a deep clinical evidence base, the Centre enables surgeons worldwide to master advanced TMJ surgical techniques, improve patient outcomes, and join an international community shaping the next generation of temporomandibular joint care.
