Organs of the Foundation
The members of the organs shall have special expertise and experience with regard to the fulfilment of the
Foundation's tasks
and shall support its objectives in a special way. They are obliged to manage the Foundation conscientiously
and
economically.
The members of the Executive Board and the Foundation Council shall, in principle, work for the Foundation
on a voluntary basis.
They are entitled to reimbursement of reasonable expenses and costs actually incurred. The
Foundation Council may decide on appropriate remuneration for the members of the Executive Board, provided
that the
time and effort invested in the Foundation justify this and the available
funds permit it.

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees shall actively contribute to the realisation of the foundation's objectives, in
particular by advising and supporting the Executive Board and
the Foundation Council. Its members are appointed by the Foundation Council on the recommendation of the
Executive Board
for a term of four years; reappointments are permitted. In their selection, particular
value is placed on professional and scientific reputation. The current Secretary General of the
German Society for Surgery is an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees.
The Executive Board and the Foundation Council may jointly decide to appoint individuals to the Board of
Trustees on an honorary basis
if they have rendered outstanding services in connection with the foundation's purpose.
The Board of Trustees and the Scientific Advisory Board hold at least one joint meeting per year at the
Fascination of Surgery conference. Here, both the Board of Trustees and the Scientific Advisory Board can
present and discuss projects. Further meetings are held as required.
The members of the Board of Trustees receive free access to all content on the DCS portal and all
events.

Scientific Advisory Board
The members of the Scientific Advisory Board are outstanding surgeons in their field or professions related
to surgery
(technicians, engineers, physicists, etc.). They support the foundation's goals by actively
participating in the annual Fascination of Surgery conference, conducting special
surgical courses in their field and creating teaching content to develop a curriculum for their
field.
They also support the foundation's goals by referring potential board members and sponsors
to the foundation.

Statutes (excerpts)
§ 2 Purpose
(1) The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research, education and training,
including student assistance, public health and public healthcare,
as well as civic engagement for charitable and benevolent purposes in the
field of surgery.
(2) The purpose of the statutes is realised, for example, through
- support for surgical training, further education and continuing education programmes,
- organising educational events on surgical science and practice
(exhibitions, presentations, lectures, seminars, conferences, workshops, courses),
- promoting research projects and suitable medical science projects in the field
of surgery, the results of which are made available to the general public in a timely and
appropriate manner,
- Awarding scholarships and grants to doctors, scientists, domestic and foreign
visiting professors and lecturers, as well as students and young professionals in surgery and
related
disciplines from Germany and abroad on the basis of internal guidelines,
- Purchasing and providing devices or equipment, imaging and analytical
procedures, in particular electron microscopy and related technology and analyses, insofar as
these are relevant to medical-biological research or surgical care, for
tax-privileged corporations or corporations under public law,
- Informing the public about the concerns and progress of surgical science and
research and promoting them, in particular through internet communication and publications,
- Promoting the willingness of citizens, companies, graduates and private organisations to
support the tax-privileged purposes of the foundation through foundations, endowments and donations
- Supporting individuals who, through no fault of their own, have fallen into hardship as a result of
surgical procedures.
(3) The purpose of the foundation may also be achieved through the procurement and transfer of funds in
accordance with
§ 58 No. 1 of the German Tax Code (AO) for the promotion of science and research, education
and training, including student assistance, public health care and public
health care, as well as civic engagement for charitable and benevolent purposes
in the field of surgery, as well as charitable purposes of another corporation or for the realisation
of these tax-privileged purposes by a public corporation.
(4) The foundation may also provide support abroad; in addition to achieving itstax-privileged purposes, its
activities also serve to promote the reputation of the Federal Republic of Germany abroad.
